With his ‘dear diary’ entries, his studied demeanour and a sense of self-doubt entirely at odds with his sublime ability, Shunsuke Nakamura cuts an intriguing figure.

Well done to the BBC for Football Far East: Beyond Nakamura, their excellent documentary on football links between Scotland and Japan. We got a great insight into the work Celtic are putting into developing the Japanese market, specifically their link to Yokohama F Marinos, Shunsuke Nakamura’s former (and future) club. They visited an Irish pub in Tokyo during the friendly against Tottenham in July, where we heard a local describe Celtic, and Celtic fans, in glowing terms. This all contrasted with Reporting Scotland, who earlier in the evening reported that Rangers fans were under threat not to look for new sectarian material, no matter how obscure the reference, from SNP MPS, Michael Matheson. This is reminiscent of the incident two years ago, when Airdrie fans discovered that pillow cases may well be innocuous items of linen, but become loaded symbols when used as headgear at Scottish football grounds.Time to move on.
Shunsuke Nakamura will remain with Celtic until the summer after Japanese club Yokohama F Marinos decide against a January transfer bid.
In a magazine interview conducted in his native Japan, Shunsuke Nakamura was once asked to name the top three players in Scotland. Heading the list was Russell Latapy.
It wasn’t pretty, but Celtic made it 10 victories in a row with a 1-2 win on their first visit to New Douglas Park Hamilton today. Most of the plaudits must go to Hamilton Accies, who made the most of Celtic’s lacklustre performance to take an early lead and continued to make chances.Hamilton defender Martin Canning tripped Cillian Sheridan on the edge of the Hamilton box after his defensive partner, McLaughlin, failed to read the forward ball. Sheridan fell inside the box, the referee awarded a penalty and sent Canning off.Shunsuke Nakamura took responsibility for the penalty and finished well to equalise on 37 minutes. The expected onslaught against 10 men failed to materialise until the closing minutes of the game when Hamilton Czech ‘keeper Cerny was put under pressure for the first time. After saving well from a Samaras header, Cerny punched a cross clear outside his box which was collected by Paul Hartley on his chest before he played a one-two with Scott Brown and sent a thunderous volley into the net. This was a familiar end to a game in which Celtic struggled to find their rhythm but demonstrated again that they had enough character collect the points.
Two goals by Cillian Sheridan and one from Shunsuke Nakamura move Celtic four points clear at the top of the table.
